Deciphering immune-suppressive factors in the leukemic bone marrow microenvironment

Dr. Cesca van de Ven obtained her MSc degree in Developmental Biology and Biomedical Genetics at the University of Utrecht in 2007. She obtained her PhD in 2011 after deciphering genetic networks controlling axial extension during embryonic development in the Clevers group at the Hubrecht Institute, Utrecht under supervision of dr. Deschamps.

In 2012 she joined the Den Boer group as a postdoc, initially at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam and since 2018 at the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology. Cesca focusses on immune-repressive elements in the bone marrow microenvironment at the time of leukemia, aimed to find ways to improve the response to cell-based immunotherapies in children with leukemia. To this aim, she develops bone marrow niche models to study immune cell migration dynamics in more detail.
