Your life after cancer

More and more children with cancer are being cured thanks to increasingly better treatment and care. There are now more than 14,000 people in the Netherlands who had cancer as children. After treatment, a new chapter begins for many people, in which they can discover what is possible again. Sometimes you may still notice changes in your body, your energy levels, or your thoughts about the future, but your confidence in your body will return over time. Nevertheless, life has changed for many people.

Through scientific research, we are learning more and more about the effects of the disease and the treatment it can provide, both short-term and long-term. These include both physical and mental consequences. This website provides information about these issues, as well as more. This helps you take control of your own life and the care you need.

In scientific literature, people who have had a type of cancer are called survivors. We choose to use this term, although we understand that not everyone embraces it.

"For me, being a survivor means living. And living is learning. Not always in a straight line upwards, but sometimes tumbling down and then picking yourself up again. Up and down, step by step."

There are several blogs about life after childhood cancer. On the website of the Dutch Children's Cancer Association, you'll find many stories and blogs from other people living after childhood cancer.
