This PhD-project will focus on the early identification of the critically ill pediatric cancer patient in order to timely start an intervention or referral for intensive care treatment, to ultimately improve the outcome of these patients. SO-PEWS: The primary aim of this prospective cohort study is to investigate the predictive value of the BedsidePEWS in the population of pediatric oncology patients aged 0-18 years for cardiopulmonary arrest at the ward, an urgent PICU admission, and the combined outcome of these two events. The secondary aim is to develop a diagnostic tool that timely detects clinical deterioration in pediatric cancer patients. The Bedside PEWS will serve as the base for this diagnostic tool, which may be optimized and expanded if necessary to establish a Specific Oncology Pediatric Early Warning Score (SO-PEWS).
