Testicular biopsies in prepubertal boys diagnosed with cancer to preserve future fertility; towards a safe and feasible autologous cell therapy
Phone 088 97 25 614

The cure rate of children with cancer continues to increase. Therefore, the long-term consequences of treatment on quality of life of survivors are a focus of research. One of the possible side effects of gonadotoxic treatments is infertility. Semen preservation is available as option for post pubertal boys, but no options are available at an earlier age.

Therefore, this project will investigate the most relevant aspects related to safety and feasibility of fertility preservation in prepubertal boys. Through this project, we aim to develop optimal standardized protocol for fertility preservation and both spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) isolation as well as in vitro propagation for future fertility restoration.
