Expansion research department ready in the course of 2019

The two floors of the research building have almost reached their maximum capacity. The number of employees has grown much faster than anticipated. The growth in the number of employees makes it necessary to set up the floor that is still empty.

Delivered empty

The possibility of expansion was considered when the building was delivered. That is why an extra floor of the research building was delivered empty at the time.

The original plan was to put the floor into use after 2020 but this will take place sooner. The aim is to start using the 4th floor in the course of 2019. With this expansion, we expect to be able to realize approximately 150-200 extra workplaces for research, and in time we will have space for over 400 researchers spread over three floors in the research building.

Research groups

There are currently 23 research groups, about 200 FTEs, actively divided over two floors. At the end of the year, the center will have 27 research groups with around 250 FTEs working in the research department. In order to be able to optimally cover the entire spectrum of pediatric oncology research, the Princess Máxima Center expects to need around 40 research groups (~400 FTE).

Funding

The expansion was made possible by KiKa, the VWS subsidy, the Princess Máxima Center Foundation and the successful acquisition of project financing. The money for the auditorium was raised from various donors.
